2023: PDP Speaks On Envoys’ Visit To Atiku

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the recent visits by some diplomats and ambassadors to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News reports that the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Hidayet Bayraktar, had on June 17 visited the former vice president at his Abuja residence.

The South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Thamsanqa Mseleku, also visited the PDP presidential candidate on July 28 in Abuja.

Similarly, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing and the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, also met with Atiku.

In an interview with the Punch, PDP Spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, says the recent visits by diplomats and ambassadors show that Atiku is respected globally.

He said that such visits are important and may not necessarily be political because Atiku is an astute investor, administrator and exceptional public servant.

He said, “I speak for the PDP and don’t like speculating. For us, Atiku is free to receive visitors. Such visits are important and may not necessarily be political. He is a presidential candidate, a world-class figure, an investor, an outstanding administrator and an exceptional public servant. He is also a unifier.’’

Also speaking, Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe, said there is no special in the meeting of his principal’s meeting with diplomats and ambassadors.

Anybody who seeks to engage Atiku Abubakar must be a person of value. I don’t see anything unusual in his meeting with diplomats. Apart from being the PDP presidential candidate, such engagements are normal,” he said.
