FG Files Fresh 24 Charges Agaisnt Kyari, Uncovers Mega Assets

Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Anselm Odinkalu has disclosed that it will tell a squalid story about the Nigerian police following the fresh case of money laundering against the suspended deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari.

Naija News reports that the Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, J. Sunday, filed the fresh 24-count charges filed against Kyari on August 30, 2022.

It is understood that the fresh charges were filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, with charge number: FHC/ABJ/CR/408/22.

The case has Mohammed Kyari and Ali Kyari as co-defendants, who are the siblings of the former commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Also, the Federal Government filed separate 24-count charges against Kyari’s former deputy, Sunday Ubua, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, who is under suspension.

An affidavit in support of the charge deposed to by a litigation officer with the Directorate of Prosecution and Legal Services, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Stephen Kashaw explained that Kyari was subjected to general and financial investigation when he was transferred by the police to the NDLEA headquarters on February 14, 2022, for investigation.

Reacting to the development, Odinkalu via the micro blogging platform, Twitter, stated that if the fresh allegations against Kyari were proven, the police institution’s transparency is questionable.

He further said he will devote time to tell a squalid story about the force.

He tweeted; “You don’t want to form a view of criminal proceedings based merely on charges that have yet to be tested or proved by evidence but these charges in this #AbbaKyari case tell a truly squalid story about @PoliceNG.”
